About Our Program

GENERAL INFORMATION

Hillsboro Online Academy is a new learning option for our community and is part of the Hillsboro School District! The Academy features a rigorous yet flexible menu of online learning programs, designed to meet the varied needs of students and their families. An individual learning plan is central to the Academy’s mission. Also core is connecting students to careers and community.

Hillsboro Online Academy will incorporate regular “real time” service, enrichment and social activities. STEM learning pathways are in place for students, one pathway including enrollment in the nationally recognized “Project Lead the Way” program. A second pathway ties high school coursework to the Early College Program at Portland Community College where students earn high school as well as college credits.

This new school is a free public school open to all students. Students will complete all necessary requirements for graduation in the state of Oregon including state assessments and the extended learning application, (senior project). Upon successful completion students will receive a diploma from Hillsboro Online Academy.

The Hillsboro School District launched the Hillsboro Online Academy to fill the needs of students who wish to conduct their education outside of, or as a supplement to, traditional learning on a physical campus. Our new Academy provides the educational tools for our students to do so.

It's Free!

Our program is a free, public school open to all middle and high school students. It offers core courses and electives that enable students to fulfill state educational requirements.

Career and College Readiness

A licensed counselor will meet with the student to establish career and college counseling for post-high school opportunities. Students will complete all State of Oregon graduation requirements and will receive a diploma from the Hillsboro Online Academy upon successful completion.

STEM Connections to Industry

The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM curriculum is driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and active engagement.

Enrichment Opportunities

Our program provides the student a chance to further their knowledge, and dig deeper into a subject they have previously taken.

Community Service Learning

Research shows that in an educational settings, a wide range of benefits are gained when community-based organizations engage students in service and service-learning.

Student Socials and Activities

Although our curriculum and classes are online, we realize the importance of socialization in a well-rounded education. There will be a number of social and extra extracurricular activities that will encourage student socialization and participation.
